Pencil and ink have been my go to drawing materials for years. I am not a trained or natural-born artist, so pencil is a great medium to play with as it tends to grip the paper and allows you greater control over your drawing movements than softer mediums like paint or pastels. And, it’s erasable!! It is also surprisingly malleable allowing you to beautifully blend colors to achieve subtle or dramatic shading, an effect I absolutely adore. Below are some examples of my favorite doodles using pencil and ink.

A few years ago, I discovered a great little program called Procreate that allows you to draw digitally on an iPad. It is a bit of a learning curve, but, wow, it is so easy to create amazing designs with fewer of the frustrations and limitations less experienced artists like me encounter with physical art materials. Most of my illustrations and surface pattern designs are made in Procreate now which makes modifying and incorporating the designs into many different applications super easy. Below are some examples of illustrations I have made in procreate.
